Merten's Philosophy focuses on the responsible use (and reuse) of materials, energy, and resources.

Philosophy

Our mission is simple: To build innovative, eco-elegant designs – homes in which unique aesthetics and unsurpassed comfort are paired with the responsible use of resources, materials, and energy.

In the greening of today’s world, it is not enough to simply present an end product. One must present each stage of creation with verifiable documentation and performance in order to attain a finished home that can be sourced back through its choice of materials and technologies to points of origins which, in themselves, also embody the imagination and science of the Green Ethos.

All of our homes are Energy Star-rated and Built Green. We also design and build according to LEED. If you are curious about or interested in seeking alternative and/or additional certification(s), please let us know.

Taking a whole-systems approach to the design+build process we perform the following: deconstruction; construction waste recycling; and utilization of reclaimed and renewable materials. Then we furnish our homes with today’s energy-efficient technologies, including: geothermal heating and cooling, solar thermal, photovoltaics, low-e glass, exceptional insulation, and overall Green Architectural Design.

We want the homes we design + build to radiate an organic synthesis of passive and active elements. As such, we constantly seek to tune the sensitive balance between the new and the renewable; between road-tested technology and natural character; and between individual materials and overall composition.
